Highlights and Implications
• This study developed and tested the psychometric properties of a brief form of the Multicultural Orientation Inventory–Group Version to used in routine clinical practice to assess cultural processes in therapy groups longitudinally.
• Item response theory analysis based on the graded response model indicated an eight-item brief form was the best fit for this data. In addition, concurrent and predictive validity as found for the Multicultural Orientation Inventory–Group Version-8 (MCO-G-8) Brief form.
• The MCO-G-8 Brief Form is suitable for capturing cultural processes as they develop and fluctuate over the course of therapy groups. The MCO-G-8 brief form may be a useful instrument to provide continuous feedback and process measurement of cultural processes to assist group therapy practice and training.
